Trinamic’s Newly Improved TMC4671 Servo Controller IC
The improved TMC4671-LA follows the TMC4671-ES, incorporating feedback from nearly 2 years of field testing by selected customers. The fully functional servo controller enables a wide range of powerful servo applications for efficient solutions.
Hamburg, May 4, 2020 – TRINAMIC Motion Control GmbH & Co. KG announces the fully optimized TMC4671-LA. After launching the world’s first fully integrated servo controller IC with field-oriented control for BLDC/PMSM and 2-phase stepper motors, as well as DC motors and voice coils, Trinamic kept working on the chip. Based on valuable input from market-leaders in e-mobility, medical devices, lab automation, robotics, factory automation, and designers of pumps and blowers, the integrated chip was carefully evaluated and improved.
The TMC4671-LA addresses these markets by embedding all necessary control loops in rugged, reliable state-machines. By offloading real-time critical tasks from the processor and software and implementing all control functions in hardware, the TMC4671 offers a crucial benefit: it takes care of all control functions itself.

Only a few lines of code are needed to develop a dynamic servo controller since all time-critical calculations are integrated in hardware. This not only offloads the processor of real time critical tasks, it also optimizes design cycles for a shorter time to market. Highly performant, efficient and dynamic, the TMC4671-LA offers the complete package with integrated ADCs, position sensor interfaces, and position interpolators.
Besides the improved servo control chip, Trinamic also introduces the open-source TMC4671+TMC6100-BOB. This development board features the dedicated TMC4671-LA servo controller IC and the universal high-voltage gate-driver TMC6100. Designed for rapid prototyping of applications, it allows Engineers to immediately check how the motor performs with Trinamic’s chips while tuning the application.
The TMC4671-LA is available from May through Trinamic’s sales partners. Fully integrated into Trinamic’s development environment, the TMC4671-EVAL can be combined with a 2A/24V power stage, 10A/70V power stage or TMC6100-EVAL for complete evaluation of the fully functional servo controller IC. Both the TMC4671-BOB and TMC4671+TMC6100-BOB are available as well to speed up the design-in process.
