TMCM 171 encoder read speed

TMCM 171 encoder read speed

Postby ogry » 06 Dec 2010, 15:14

Hello All

I'm a bit new in the BLDC field, but I show that this module can operate in position mode, so, as a stepper module, receiving the position feedback from a incremental encoder. I see that internally has a counter of 32bits for the position, and that it has commands like MVP that gets the motor to a determined position.

What I want to know is the speed at wich is capable to read the increments. By example, Renishaw encoders RGH24O (5nm) needs to be read at a minimun of 4Mhz, and for the speed I want to run, the recommended read speed is 12Mhz or more.

Also, it would be nice to know the frequency at wich compares the resolved actual position with the required position.

Saludos, OSCAR.

The maximum encoder counting frequency is 13MHz. The standard (and maximum) frequency of the position PID regulator is 1kHz.

Thank you, Olav!

I vote to add this important datum to de datasheet.

Yes, they are a little bit "hidden" in the TMCM-170/171 Programming Manual.
