Connecting a TMCM-140 via USB problem

Postby richb77 » 15 Oct 2009, 17:05

I cannot get my PD1-140-42 to connect to my PC.
I am using the USB/RS232 version and haveinstalled the USB driver (which worked).
I trying to trial a PD1-140-42 RS232 through a mini USB and i cannot connect to the module.
I am trying to connect to my PD1-140-42 and i have nothgin but connection errors on screen.
The software will not automatically detect the module type and no options available work either.
Messages i see are "cannot automatically detect module please select". None of the options work and as soon as i try to manually control the motor i receive a "no module found" error.
I have tried to update the firmware and this to returns the error that the module is not connnected.
TMCL/PC tells me it cannot automatically detect what module i have and i have to choose...None work!

I have installed the USB driver and my PC sees the motor fine.

I am not very experienced with this type of motor and have hit a wall.
I have exhausted my limited knowledge on this.
Any help is good as i do not know how to get this expensive motor working

Connecting a PD-140 via USB

When you have connected the module to your PC via USB and you have successfully installed the USB driver (which you did as you say), the module will be visible as a virtual COM port. You now have to look up which COM port this is. To do that, open the Device Manager in Windows and there open the Connections (COM and LPT) branch. There you will be able to see a COM port which is named "Trinamic TMCM-140 (virtual COM)", and behind that name you will see the COM port number (e.g. "COM9").
Now, open the "Connection" tab in the Options dialogue of the TMCL-IDE (Menu Setup/Options), and select "RS232/RS485" as the connection type. Select the COM port that you have seen in the device manager as the COM port. Baud rate does not matter in this case (leave it at 9600, but it could be any setting). The address setting must be set to 1.
Now open the direct mode dialogue and you should be able to control the module via USB.
