TMCM-351 USB Issues

TMCM-351 USB Issues

Postby andrec » 13 Jun 2012, 11:09

Hi All, recently purchased 3x TMCM-351 modules to use in separate test JIGs. Tested the modules using on my PC (XP) via a USB hub using TMCL-IDE v206 and all worked well. However when connected directly to any of the USB ports on the PC (not via hub) the module USB interface automatically resets and hangs after the 2nd USB command/querry. Tried this on two other PCs (also XP) and operation was similar for one other PC where failure mode occured only when modules were plugged directly into the PC port but worked via a hub. However, the modules exhibited the failure mode on the 3rd PC even via the same hub using the same cables etc. Checked the driver versions for hub and modules on all the PCs and they were identical.

The failure mode is 100% repeatable and I have proven that it is always on the 2nd USB querry - doesnt even need to be a command. For example, using the TMCL-IDE if you search for the module via setup->options it finds the module the 1st time. The failure mode then occurs if you stop and search for the module a 2nd time!!!

It would be very advantageous for us to stick with USB therefore I would be very grateful if someone would provide a solution/work-around...

Many thanks in advance!

Are you using a PC with AMD processor? In this case USB with the TMCM-351 and TMCM-140 the USB communication does not work reliably on Windows (with Linux it works perfectly - also with AMD processor). As far as we know the USBSER.SYS driver does not fully comply to the standards.
We are working on a solution for this, but this will take some time.

With the newest modules (like TMCM-6110, TMCM-1161) this problem does not occur.
