Stall-Guard with TMCM310

Stall-Guard with TMCM310

Postby WiWil » 04 Sep 2006, 08:55

Hello,

I use the TMCM310 and want to use the Stall-Guard Function. When I use the Adjusting Tool from the TMCL-ID Software I get mostly the values 0 or 1 for the motor load which is absolutely ok. But when I activate the Stall-guard-function the motor will stop before there is some higher load, although the Tool shows the value 1 or there is only a very short peak of the load value.
Is there a possibility to filter the Stall-guard-values to get a more usable function. This ist happening when the motor has no load at all just as well as its used in my application.

I hope someone can actually help my

Kind regards

WiWil

A stallguard value of 1 generally s not satisfactory for detection of a stall. You would have to increase velocity in a given application to get a higher and stable reading. You could try filtering using TMCL, but this will reduce the exactness of the stall detection, i.e. higher response time.

To get the maximum StallGuard reading with the 310, please be sure to use a 1A RMS motor like the QSH4218 series and drive it at maximum current with mixed decay turned off.

Please try also the "StallGuard Profiler" function in the TMCL-IDE. This tool helps you to find out the motor velcoities that are best suited for using StallGuard. The StallGuard Profiler is also described in chapter 7.6.6 of the TMCL reference manual.
With the "StallGuard Adjusting Tool" that is also part of the TMCL-IDE you can also find out the best parameters for StallGuard easily.

We have found a bug in the firmware, which might have been the cause. Please update to V3.30 or newer.
