TMCM-090 Power Supply

TMCM-090 Power Supply

Postby Dries » 17 Jan 2012, 18:00

Hello,

The TMCM-090 module has input pins for the +5V and +48V power supplies. Is there a sequence at which both power supplies should be connected to the board (5V before 48V or vice versa)?
I'm asking this because I somehow killed the processor of a TMCM090, and I am trying to figure out what I've done wrong.
Or maybe, is it wrong to generate the output signal without using the piezo motor as a load? I've connected the 4 phases only to an oscilloscope to see the shape of the output.

Thanks in advance,
Dries

The power sequence and output load does not matter. However, a common problem with lab supplies is when the GND connection has been removed, but VCC and VS are connected, current can flow from the high voltage supply via GND to the low voltage supply. This destroys sensitive elements like the microcontroller.

Thank you for the quick reply. I have an other question;
There are several GND connections on the TMCM-090 (pin 2/4/6/8/10/61/62). Should I connect each of these pins to a common GND, or is it sufficient to connect only a few pins?
The same goes with the Motor Output pins. Each phase has 4 pins. Should I connect these pins together or only use 1 of these to connect to the motor?

For this module, you do not need to connect all GND pins, and one output pin is sufficient per motor phase, as motor currents are comparatively low (<1A).
