Several motors, One Driver

Several motors, One Driver

Postby carlknut » 27 Aug 2010, 09:24

Hi!

I am going to control three piezomotors.
The motors never have to move at the same time so I was thinking about the possibility to let the motors share one TMCM-090 driver because there is a very limited space in this application and there is not room for 3 drivers.

I was thinking of use 12 small solid-state relays between the motors and the driver, (one for each phase) and choose which motor that should be connected at a certain time with help of the relays, controlled by my microcontroller. I would only need to switch when the motor already have stopped.

Can i to this with the TMCM-090?

Thanks,
Carl

Hello,

yes, you can switch between the different motors this way. But you should be aware, that the motor may make a small jump when switching on or off (within one piezo step).
