TMCM-160 DEAD / flash corrupted ?

TMCM-160 DEAD / flash corrupted ?

Postby fritz194 » 13 May 2011, 12:56

Hi,

We use the ´160 module in our product and have quite good experience so far.
(10 machines equipped with 1 module each are operating for almost a year with high duty cycles)
Last month, one module failed without any sign of damage, abuse or whatever.
Customer told me that the machine failed "over night" - means worked the day before - but failed on turning on the next day.

Analyzing the module - everything seems pretty fine - no smell, no suspicious cap,
no sign of excess heat, halfbridge-mosfets without any cracks (...)

If I connect to 24V, the 2 voltage regulators seems to work - 5V, 12V generated, controller
has power, but no LED , no response to serial command. (serial driver, chargepump, ok)

This is why I assume that probably the microchip flash / firmware got somehow corrupted.

Is it possible to reflash that / are you intrested /does it makes sense / to send it to you for analysis ?
Is there any form of warranty which would apply in such a case ?

Many years ago (when we started selling the TMCM-160) there were some which "forgot" their firmware (flash got just cleared, if I remember correctly - it really is a long time ago). Maybe this happened to your module also. Yes, please send it in for repair (via your distributor please if possible). I think that normal warranty applies in this case.

I will send that module to my distributor...

Is that problem related to a hardware revision or a certain firmware revision ?

If I rember correctly, it was some problem with the PIC processor itself, but it could be solved by some hardware modification.
