max. Current??

Postby mikeljo » 08 Jan 2010, 23:44

Hi,

on this side viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1922&e=0
The Text says:
The TMC603 directly drives 6 external N-channel MOSFETs for motor currents up to 20A and up to 50V.

but some Lines deeper:
Electrical data
up to 30A motor current
9V to 50V supply voltage
EMV optimized current controlled gate drivers up to 150mA
QGD protection: supports recent power MOSFET generation
3.3V or 5V interface

Same difference between the Datasheet and the Short Specs.

What is the correct amount?

Thanks

Bye

Sorry for the confusion. It is corrected to 30A in the actual data sheet. In fact 30A is not a hard border, but just a hint, as the maximum current mainly depends on the MOSFETs used.

but how is the max voltage VM ? can i use external switching regulator ? e.g. main VCC 100V and also applied to mosfet, but switching regulator output ~15v to TMC603's +VM pin

Correct, VM can be up to 50V continuously. The high-side MOSFETs drain-supply and VM must come from the same supply voltage in order to use all functions of the chip.

can i use 100v mosfet ? e.g. use 100v to drain, and use switching step down to <50v to IC / VM ?

Hello, unfortunately it is not possible to build a higher voltage system with the driver. This is, because the gate voltage of the high-side MOSFETs must be driven at the full voltage swing. So, the MOSFETs and TMC603 must use the same power supply voltage.
