TMC246 soldering

Postby Vivio » 05 Nov 2008, 14:21

Hello,

I want to control several bipolar steppers with TMC246. First I want to make a test board, to see if everything works as it should.

The problem is soldering :( Can I use a normal soldering station or I need some special requirments?

It was perfect if there was an socket in which I can put TMC246, but I've haven't found one yet.

All the best!

Hello,

sockets for QFP44 are available from special companies for microcontroller programming stations, but expensive.
You can solder it with a normal soldering iron :P In prototyping, we do this ourselves sometimes. To make it easier, you can design your pad footprint in a way, that the pad is at least 1mm longer than the pins.

Then I can solder it by myself.

Thanks also for the PCB tip!
