PD2-013-42 problems

Postby nicopb » 27 Jul 2012, 13:37

Hi,

I just purchased 3 pandrives PD2-013-42 and trying to communicate with them thru a usb-RS485 converter.
Motor(s) doesn't respond.

I have searched thru the entire forum for answers, and followed them all. But still no result.

- I added the 120 Ohm terminal resistor
- I added the 1k resistor inbetween 485- and GND
- I added the 1k resistor inbetween 485+ and +5V

Applied power is 12V. When applied, motor is braked, so that is correct.

I have used several communication programs both in windows as on our linux systems
I swapped all 3 motors.
I did a hard reset.

Nothing seems to get the motor to work.

I tested with positive result a communication over the USB-RS485 converter via a RS485-RS232 converter to another computer, works fine.

What else can I do?

What kind of USB to RS485 converter are you using? If it is a Trinamic USB-2-485, the connections should be as follows:
PD-013 pin 15 (RS485+) to pin 7 of the USB-2-485
PD-013 pin 16 (RS485-) to pin 2 of the USB-2-485
optional GND (pin 14) to pin 3 of the USB-2-485.

The Trinamic USB-2-485 is already equipped with a RS485 termination network, so there is no needto add those resistors then. But with most other converters this is needed (for example we have also tried an USB to RS485 converter cable from FTDI).

Connection speed is 9600 baud, 8 data bits, one stop bit, no parity. After opening the connection, first press CR some times. Then try to enter e.g. AX and hit CR to display the firmware revision number.

I have returned the motors to the supplier and am switching back to PD-110-42-RS232 which I used with good results before.

Thanks for your help.
