Negative power supply for PDx-108?

Negative power supply for PDx-108?

Postby Georg » 19 May 2011, 09:05

Hello,
PDx-108 hardware manual reads clearly:
Pin 1 GND Power (GND)
Pin 2 VDD Power (Supply) VDD (+9V…+28V)
However, it would be helpful for my application if the drive accepted negative power supply with respect to the ground:
Pin 1 VDD Power (Supply) VDD (–9V…–28V)
Pin 2 GND Power (GND)
I need not make use of digital inputs/outputs (pins 5 – 8).

This will not be a problem, even 1kV and 1kV+10V will go, unless you touch it or use any interface pins ;-)
The module does not know, what absolute potential there is on the supply, but, as soon as you use the RS485 or an other interface, you must make sure, that either the module supply is floating with respect to the other participant(s), or it is related to the GND terminal.
