Stall Detect 246A

Stall Detect 246A

Postby jagnala » 20 Aug 2007, 08:54

Hi,

I have been trying to get stall detection on a small linear stepper actuator and the best result i can get after tweaking Rs is a no load Lmove of 1,2 and even the smallest load is solid zero i have tried playing are with the speed but it does really seem to make much of a difference. Anyone have any ideas i can send the schematics if it would help.

Thanks.

StallGuard

Postby Dr.LarsLarsson (TRINAMIC) » 22 Aug 2007, 21:30

How well StallGuard works depends on the stepper motor used and on the difference between mechanical load while free running and stall condition.

Typically, a motor with an inductance of some mH and with a coil resistance of some ohms fits well to StallGuard.

So, ff there is a high mechanical load even for free running - caused by the given application itself - it might be difficult for StallGuard to detect a stall articulately.
