Stall-Guard automatic motor stop

Subject: Stall-Guard automatic motor stop with TMC429 and TMC262

Hello,

I have a question concerning the stop of the stepper motor when a stall is detected.
Configuration:
- 1 TMC429 with 1 TMC262
- communication via SPI-Interface

Is there any possibility that the TMC429 can immediately stop sending step-instructions to the TMC262 by itself when a stall occurs?
Or do I need a microcontroller to prevent the TMC429 to send more step-instructions?

Kind regards

Hello,
in this configuration, you have two options:
1. You can wire the STALL output of the TMC262 to the TMC429 stop switch input. In case you have additional mechanical stop switches, you'd need to logically OR them to the switch signals, e.g. to both inputs in order to support both directions.
or, as you propose:
2. Determine the stall condition via the CPU, by reading out stallGuard value and detecting a certain threshold.
