USB2X Windows7 issue

USB2X Windows7 issue

Postby martin fox » 15 Jul 2011, 16:13

I recently purchased a USB2X converter and downloaded USB2X_Windows7.zip for the drivers for my Win7 machine.
After Driver Installation my device manager showed a new entry in 'Universal Bus Controllers' - USB-2-X.
However it also shows an entry in 'OtherDevices'- USB Serial Port which is marked !! No Driver Found.
Please tell me if my installation was sucessful and, if so, why it puts a spurious, unusable Serial Port into my system.
If I unistall this serial port driver it goes away, but reapperas whenever I plug in the USB2X device.

The problem does not exist if I install the XP Driver on an XP machine.

The newer drivers for the FTDI USB interface chip (which is used in the USB-2-X device) also show a COM port, but this cannot be used with the USB-2-X. Unfortunately it is not possible to turn off this feature.
So if you can control your USB-2-X using the GUI supplied with it (USB2X.exe) nothing is wrong with your installation, the COM port can be ignored.
